Smart cities use sensor technologies and wireless communications to improve a city’s functionality. However, these technologies can also be used for entrenching policing. One example is China’s use of facial recognition on Uyghurs. To ensure this doesn’t happen, activists need to protest against this. Harlem residents and students at Columbia University are working to make sure this does not get implemented in New York City.
