Inland Flooding

“How can floods occur in inland areas?”
When people think of floods, particularly climate-induced ones, a picture of a coastline being plunged over probably comes to mind. However, being by the seaside is not a requirement for floods. Inland areas can become flooded from downpours of rain, levees breaking, or even snowpacks melting too quickly! Inland Flooding is going to become a larger and larger problem in years to come, and resilience planners must take this into consideration. Famous inland floods in the U.S include the 1889 Johnstown Flood in Western Pennsylvania and the 2013 Colorado floods.
