The California Department of Insurance is the backbone of insurance regulation in the State of California. The California Insurance Commissioner is the elected leader of the California Department of Insurance. The California Insurance Commissioner is in charge of monitoring the Department of Insurance, regulating insurance companies in the state, answering questions and complaints made by the public regarding the insurance industry, enforcing the California Insurance Code, and doing the best to keep the California insurance industry healthy and working for consumers. The current California Insurance Commissioner is Ricardo Lara.
