Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) train a disproportionate number of Black Engineers in the US. Despite only enrolling, 14% of Black Americans they graduate a whopping 40% of all Black Engineering Students! Much of this can be attributed to the extra support Black students are able to receive at these institutions. By funding HBCUs, these academies can provide extra programs such as startup incubators, which can lead to more successful startups.
